treadingdawn: (across the universe)

It seems there are many occasions today: Valentine's Day, the Lunar New Year, and the arrival of old friends.

I know which ones I will be celebrating.

[ooc: Requesting you don't tell him he's fiction or any spoilers past Prince Caspian. No doubles please!]

Well--I don't think walking would be the first thing to come to mind, but I sort-of see what you mean.

We've got lions, but only in zoos. Unicorns are only fairy tales here--there.

Well I have met a unicorn only once, one who spoke to me that is, which happened in this world, but Lightfoot told me unicorns prefer their privacy and keep to their own counsel. It may be that way in your world.

If they are real, I'd love to meet one. I always saw them as a lot like a horse, only grander.

I am not well-read in unicorns but I have heard there are conditions you must meet in order to ride one.

The unicorn has to like you, of course. And every unicorn is different.

That's not so different from horses. Some are finicky and temperamental, but some are really sweet.

My horse falls somewhere in between. His temperament is very forgiving, but he isn't always sweet.

His name is Destrier, a companion of mine since boyhood.

Someone else mentioned him to me, I think. Is he a destrier?

Yes, he is. He is a destrier named Destrier. Is that a problem?

No, I only meant--I was only wondering about his breed, that's all. I don't know much about destriers.

[There's a laugh here.]

I am joking. He is a very good horse and has always served me well.
