Really? That is fascinating! Do they all talk, or is speech unique to some special line of divergence or mutation in specific species?

No not all of them, that's why there are beasts then there are Talking Beasts. A Talking Bear will be much larger than a mute bear, and even the smallest of Talking Bears will be the biggest of the mute ones.
