[The sound of gentle music and the voices of fashionably cultured people maintain a balance of warm springtime harmony, until...]

This drink, I like it. Another!

[SMASH: the sound of something delicate, either glass or porcelain, shattering on the ground, because Caspian just threw it down there.]

ooc: Sob I had to. Action would be in the gardens of the Palace Versailles backdated to late afternoon! Replies may come from [livejournal.com profile] forthathorizon |D

[Manners are for times when she needs to show them off. This isn't one of them and she isn't trying to court or impress Caspian. Honestly, the reason why she comes to these social gatherings are part relief of a boring household and part learning the whispers of the elite of which Angela plans to pass on.]

I do. Do you see any reason why I shouldn't, Monsieur X?

We've only met and men do tell terrible stories of women with such boldness in their blood.

[Caspian can't help but laugh a little. Er, but wait he has a disclaimer to make.] Myself excluded of course. I would never say such things.

I see men chat more than they like to say women do.

[She shrugs with a smile.]

It is up to you whether you want to believe them or not. I, however, do not care much for what people say about me. Caring would take up too much time better spent doing the things they claim I do.

I will tell you a secret, Lady Ange. [He's leaning forward to speak quietly, into her ear though not close enough that his well-maintained beard might tickle it.]

I have heard tale but no tale of you specifically. Now that we've met I should think if I am ever to hear one your honor would have my sword at its nearest defense.

[Really, there's no need to come to her defense. Stories don't trouble her. After all, she does do the things the nosy servants whisper about amongst themselves, but Angela must keep up the ladylike appearance around the others of her station.]

I must say that I do so appreciate that, Monsieur X. May your sword slash the loose lips of fools. [Angela reaches up and pokes his nose with a playful finger.] But do entertain me with the tales you have heard. This gala does not hold my attention the way it should.

[If only Caspian knew about the Lully libertine business.] It is a sharp sword and I wield it with lightning grace.

[He says this like it's hardly boasting, which it kind of is, except he's also very good with it nonetheless. Er, but about this nose poking business. It makes Caspian go cross-eyed briefly. She wants to hear stories? Stories that make men like Caspian X blush??]

Perhaps I could entertain you with tales of the sea? That is my strength.

If I wanted to be entertained by the sea, I would have married a fisherman a long time ago. I want to hear tales that men tell when their mistresses are busy with childrearing and social niceties.
