[Not as scary-looking as the ones he's used to, though. Also wow, thanks, slightly wet now - enough to be annoying, since some flecks of water catch on his glasses.]
I've met some merpeople before - didn't look anything like you, though, and they lived in a lake instead of the ocean.

They looked more like fish than humans, with yellow eyes and gray skin. They lived in a village, too, at the bottom of the lake, and I reckon most of them speak Mermish rather than English.
[Well, some did in the lake, but that probably had to do with the Task, right? He never did think to look into that - he'd just been happy to have the Task over with.]

And ocean merfolk are like me, at least those I've met. We don't come in shades of gray.
[One day they might have a conversation about this, "Remember that one time you thought you were born a fish?" "Remember that one time you forgot you were born a prat?" At least Harry is no Eustace Scrubb.]
