I am almost sorry to see them take their leave. They were quite the challenge, but also quite the mess. Twenty-three is still a good number.

I mean I like some of them, dodgeball's pretty awesome, but uh, I'm not really good at it? It's still fun though, with the right people.

[ That's true of most things though, whether he's good at them or not, and he shrugs a little, resting his chin on his hand again, just for a change of posture. ]

It's fun to play with peers. I did not have many as a boy, and usually when I did I was never quite sure if I could win because of skill or if it was that they'd let me win.

Man, letting people win is lame. It's not fun then. If we ever play, I promise not to go easy on you, er...not that you'll probably be able to tell.

[ Sort of a semi-amused, dry look, he's not down on his own lack of sport skill but still, it's the truth! ]

[So far Caspian is the first person outside of his own world that he's spent time with. Zach makes a brief mental note to do this more, with anyone friendly he's spoken to, but also more definitely with Caspian himself, a repeat. Of course, Zach is kind of openly attachable to people he admires, and it's hard to shake him, that is, if one ever wanted to. Is that a bad thing? Maybe in some ways. It's probably bad to get attached, at least to some people, but hey, why waste time by pretending you don't care, when you do? That's pretty much lying. ]

Er, when was, or is your birthday anyway?

[Caspian's spent a lot of his time with those of his world and those not. He enjoys forging friendships. But it's troubling sometimes to think that he too will have to say goodbye and return to Narnia, one day. He doesn't like thinking about when that might be, he knows he has a duty to fulfill at home.]

Pardon? My birthday?

[He looks at Zach curiously, like this question came from the Eastern Sea.]

[Caspian had almost said "And you didn't tell me?" but he considers maybe he wasn't notified.]

Uh, well, have you heard about a guy named Sylar? Probably, maybe from Claire? Or...Mohinder.

[ And he looks away now, hands folded in front of him to keep from anything stupid like fist clenching, which with him just looks silly anyway.]

Well uh, I think everyone's been kind of busy and...he showed up that day, so. I figured we had more important things to worry about, bigger fish to fry or whatever.

[ Glancing over, he feels it's a little better to look at people when you can, but it's a loose look this time to avoid being too intense or, well, take himself too seriously. ]

[He watches Zach, catching the tell-tale signs of tension and someone who wants to curl his fingers tightly. It's not hard for Caspian to get the idea, however rather than dwell on it, he simply offers:]

I will have to treat you to another bout of drinking to celebrate belatedly. And responsibly, of course.

[ A half smile is earned. He almost forgot his own birthday, in truth, that day. ]

That sounds good. Uh, not that you have any reason to but, don't mention that to Claire, my birthday I mean.

[ He doesn't want her to feel bad and it's not that important to him, really. It's just kind of nice to have been born at all, for him. ]

[ Translation: Zach's not old enough to buy you drinks Caspian, but uh, he'll get you something! Exactly what, well he's mulling it over already. ]

[Now he grins. Of course Zach does know that would be Caspian's seventeenth birthday right? He still operates on the idea that such Earth laws shouldn't have to apply to him here.]
