treadingdawn: (across the universe)
[personal profile] treadingdawn
It seems there are many occasions today: Valentine's Day, the Lunar New Year, and the arrival of old friends.

I know which ones I will be celebrating.

[ooc: Requesting you don't tell him he's fiction or any spoilers past Prince Caspian. No doubles please!]

You must be recently arrived as well. This is the City, a world between worlds, so I have heard it called.

Oh. That makes sense...I suppose.

Where do you come from, if I may ask.

I never heard of that place at all. I am from Narnia.

From: [identity profile] madehistory.livejournal.com
Well, I haven't heard of Narnia, but I'm not so good at geography. D'you know the One, or the other Undying?

Narnia is a world of its own, probably separate from Dalemark, but I admit I too am not very thorough with geography. We barely know what lies beyond the Lone Islands in the Eastern Sea.

I'm afraid I don't know those.

If you are from the same world I am, Narnia must be very far away from Dalemark to not know the Undying.

Oh, I'm Mayelbridwen--Maewen for short.

The only other world I know of is Earth, and Narnia and Earth have very limited contact.

Hello...Maewen. [Possibly stumbling over pronunciation of her name.]

I am Caspian.

You know more than I do. I don't know Earth, either.

Hello, Caspian.

It is a pleasure.

I have never...been to Earth, I only know of it because a few friends of Narnia have come from there.

What sort of place is Narnia?

From: [identity profile] treadingdawn.livejournal.com
That is a little hard to explain... There are green fields and mountains, the Eastern Sea and the woods of the Lantern Waste. We have many rivers. We are inhabited by Sons of Adam, Daughters of Eve, Talking Beasts, centaurs, minotaurs, many others, and sometimes the trees dance.

What of Dalemark?

Date: 2010-02-15 05:21 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] madehistory.livejournal.com
Oh, wow... It sounds incredible! The trees really dance?

Well, there's North and South Dalemark, with the mountains between them. The North is hilly while the south is more level. They used to be split, but they were unified by Amil the Great two hundred years ago. [A pause.] Oh, and...most people don't believe it anymore, but the Undying walk the land and care for it.

Yes, well when they feel like it.

What is the Undying?

Date: 2010-02-15 05:43 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] madehistory.livejournal.com
Have you seen it yourself, or only heard of it?

What are the Undying. Well, they're...they're sort of like people, only not. Only they are. They're not gods, but they're not quite human beings, and they're connected to everything around us. The One is part of the very land itself, and there's Cennoreth the Weaver, who weaves time with her loom, and Old Ammett, who's in the water and the wind... There's so many, I can't name them all.

I have seen it with my own eyes. [Not going to clarify he has seen them in battle actually, because that's borderline terrifying.]

They sound like the dryads and the river god, and Aslan, the great lion himself. Although I do not know if he weaves, perhaps he doesn't have to.

From: [identity profile] madehistory.livejournal.com
How do you know they're dancing and not just swaying in the wind?

Weaving doesn't sound like something a lion would do, or even be able to do, for that matter.

From: [identity profile] treadingdawn.livejournal.com
How would you explain trees as big as houses walking when there is no wind?

Do you have lions in Dalemark? Or unicorns?

Date: 2010-02-16 02:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] madehistory.livejournal.com
Well--I don't think walking would be the first thing to come to mind, but I sort-of see what you mean.

We've got lions, but only in zoos. Unicorns are only fairy tales here--there.

From: [identity profile] treadingdawn.livejournal.com
Well I have met a unicorn only once, one who spoke to me that is, which happened in this world, but Lightfoot told me unicorns prefer their privacy and keep to their own counsel. It may be that way in your world.

If they are real, I'd love to meet one. I always saw them as a lot like a horse, only grander.

From: [identity profile] treadingdawn.livejournal.com
I am not well-read in unicorns but I have heard there are conditions you must meet in order to ride one.

The unicorn has to like you, of course. And every unicorn is different.
