Okay, so you know how you probably have all these traditions and things that extend back long ways, all through your family? Well pop culture is the opposite of that. It exists now. Like television or movies or even certain books.

Like the way I speak, most of the time, that's a kind of pop culture, slang.

Yeah; shite people used to say fifty years ago isn't pop culture anymore, and if it was back then there's a good reasoning that people probably forgot about it already.
